about
On a cold canadian winter evening, 16 year old Frederik De Celles was playing chess with his best friend. After sacrificing one of his best piece to save his king, he said with his french accent: “SuicideForA King..!”
And thought that.. that’d be a great band name!
Couple years later, in 2016, Fred started playing guitar and after trying out in many bands he decided to form his own: Suicide For A King. Fred met Lead Guitarist Raphaël Stooke while not only looking for a new guitarist but also for someone that knew more than him about music and could help him with his instrument, taking his guitar skills to the next level .Raph was a jazz student at a Montreal music school, together they started composing what would become their first EP Ocean Within. Fred and Raph also convinced Emile Loup Gravel (Ema) and Vincent Henri (Vince) from Jazz Music school to join their Metalcore band project.
Only thing missing was a good singer. In 2019, Fred found Jay Rodriguez on Kijiji, Canadian’s Craigslist, best place to find a metal singer! Jay was an emo kid and learned to sing (and scream) listening to bands like Underoath, The Devil Wears Prada and Job for a Cowboy. His voice would become the last element that brought together the sound of Suicide For A King, a nostalgic emo voice mixed with heavy and groovy riffs.
With a strong but noslagic sound unique to them, Suicide For A King as we know them today was born.
SFAK has performed with some of the biggest names of the scene (Blessthefall, Silent Planet, Currents, Escape the fate) and they're just getting started! Their live performances will leave you smarter, since you'll be able to pronounce a couple french words but also amazed by the raw and pure energy displayed by these 5 french-canadian boys!
